Main street

This is the main street of Gobabis, a town in Namibia. The church tower at the end, is the same one that featured in Mondays picture of the evening star.

Architecturally it is very different from a village in Thailand, Louis.
Louis: It would be, I guess. But there will be less differences with small towns in Australia, I believe.
Wonderful and typical perspective Louis!
Louis: Thank you sir, it is a typical small town view.

Oh, it looks like a German little town.
Louis: Keine Weinstube in dieser Dorff, Philine smile

A hive of activity with perpetual sunshine!
Louis: Sunshine is no problem. Rain is the problem - but different from what you people experience smile
Apart from the telltale signs, this could be a town I've seen somewhere in Michigan while growing up, Louis.
Louis: I have seen such towns in the US when I was there. Very utilitarian and no time wasted on decorative aspects.
Those trees offer some welcome shade I imagine Louis
Louis: I agree, Bill. That is why I walked under them.
A friend of mine lived in Namibia as a child. Her father was a missionary. She traveled back there a few years ago
Louis: Quite interesting. I know some Protestant missionaries in Namibia, but they are present day people.
It looks like a small sleepy town Louis, but hey, what should I know just from a snapshot.
Louis: You are about right - but then this is also the beef mecca of a country known for its beef. For those not living there, it is a pass-through town.
Very reminiscent of towns I've seen in the southern USA.
Louis: Typical of places built from the late 19th century to 1950's - utilitarian without decorations to speak of.

I love the fact that there are NO tall buildings. Great street view. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobabis
I saw that Drachten and Smallingerland are the sister-cities.
Louis: I see wiki refers to a city, but it is really only a town. Therefore no tall buildings.

The street signs look familiar Louis
Louis: Oh, they should. After all, we were a colony, once, Lisl.
Let me make it more clear. South Africa was the colony, but Namibia (then South West Africa) was under SA administration.
this looks very much like many small towns in Canada Louis... good street shot...
it’s nice to be back home to visit my friends around the world again....petersmile
Louis: There seems to be a time when this was the style of the day in many countries, peter
