What a lovely bird, Louis, nicely captured too, it almost looks like an ornament.
Louis: As a typical heron, it can sit very still and resemble an ornament, even more.
Isn't that a pretty thing, Louis! Nice pose!
Louis: It is a beauty, yes, Elizabeth.

Caught him nicely, Louis...this is very like a male Chinese Pond Heron in mating costume.
Louis: They are probably both members of the same group of herons, by the look. Thank you, Ray.
Magnifique prise, bravo !
Louis: Merci beaucoup, Martine

Well done Louis, a fine picture of a reclusive bird
Louis: Thank you, Chris. They are reclusive, indeed.
Who'd ever expect it to be part of the heron family??!! Wow.
Louis: You gave me an idea, what to post on Wednesday, Ginnie.

Wow, short legs for a heron?? Love the colour though and what a great picture, great DOF
Louis: Short legs work better in and among the reeds. Thank you, Astrid.

What an attractive Heron, Louis. I saw one in Hungary a couple of years ago
Louis: They are indeed different from your standard grey heron, Lisl.
Cracking photo of an unusual(for me) bird Louis.
Louis: I believe I was around 40 when I saw my first squacco, gutteridge. Thanks.

A bird with a purpose. Lovely sharp photo Louis.
Louis: As with most birds, that purpose is to eat smile Thank you, blackdog.
Isn't it a beauty with ir's buff body and striped head and neck. Excellent shot too.
Louis: Thank you Mary.
a fine specimen with the neck feathers being my favourite part, Louis. on the move, i see.
Louis: Trying to catch something at the waterside. Thanks Ayush.
What a lovely bird, it seems a bit smaller than most species of Herons.
Louis: We have around 7 species of smaller herons, Brian
