Early morning - Bushbuck fawn

One morning I went for a hike. I walked down the path you can see and the young bushbuck was walking up. What amazed me, was that the young buck didn't see me, even where I was standing in the open, taking pictures.

About 20secs later, it realised that it was not alone on the planet and took a frightened jump into tall grass.

To try and provide some perspective, my estimate is that the buck stands 1.6m at the top of its head.

I was surprised out of my chair when I was informed by the Portuguese Consulate that I could pick up my passport with visa, yesterday. I used that momentum to run to my car and picked up the passport. I am now the proud owner of a Schengen visa.

Now there's a coincidence.
Louis: So it is, Graeme
He looks surprisingly delicate. I am glad you're making progress on the paper trail...
Louis: Delicate is a good description,Larry. My children referred to it as the African Bambi.
i like how you captured it mid trot, Louis.
Louis: Thank you Ayush. It helped that it was not aware of me.

Perhaps it had a sense of security from the closeness of the tall grass, Louis.
Louis: I believe the I spotted the tail-end of the mother fitting into the long grass a minute earlier, so maybe it was looking around for mom. But, whatever it was an interesting observation.
What a wonderful capture, Louis!

And congrats on your visa!!
Louis: Thank you on both counts, Elizabeth.
Total AWWWWW factor here, Louis. And WONDERFUL news on your passport/visa!!!
Louis: Both are AWWWWW factors to me, Ginnie smile

He looks as if he's daydreaming out on a walk Louis.

Well done regarding the passport
Louis: You are probably right, Chris. I am chuffed about that visa.

Innocent shot, Louis. Glad your red tape has been cut
Louis: Thank you Lisl. They normally take 15 - 30 working days, but cut it to 4 in this case.

What a gentle, young bushbuck! Good to hear that you now own a Schengen visa.
Louis: Beautiful animals. Thank you Philine.
It must have been deep in thought at the time Louis. Actually it reminds me of the deer near us. They are growing in number year on year and like to eat my wife's plants in the garden, especially roses. Once instepped outside and saw three of them standing together just a few yards from me. Then I was spotted and they flew.
Louis: Most interesting moments, gutteridge - to come so close to some real wild animal, while on foot.
You will be a welcome visitor to Europe Louis

What a delightful creature this is
Louis: Thank you Bill. They are gracious animals.
I might assume the mother would be nearby but what do I know. Happy visa holding day!
Louis: You know a lot. The mother slipped into the tall grass about a minute earlier, so this one is probably looking around for mother. Oh yes, I am holding that visa very tightly smile

SO cute!
Louis: They are, thank you Anne
It looks quite timd, you were so fortunate for it to hang around long enough for a picture. Glad to hear you've got your travel documants, all systems go now I presume.
Louis: Yes, all systems go! Thank you Brian

Congratulations on the Visa and that will also mean that we will miss each other...
As for the picture, this is a wonderful scene and such a wonderful animal.
Louis: The good part and the bad part ...
Very exiting to meet the young one on an early morning hike.
And well caught, Louis!
Louis: Thank you, Tom
your image of the Bushbuck fawn is beautiful Louis...

i'm glad that you were able to obtain a visa for the Schengen countries....petersmile

BTW: Canadian citizens using Canadian passports do not require a visa to enter the Schengen Area of countries in Europe for tourism or business stays under ninety (90) days.
Louis: Thank you peter. Oh, this visa business can ruin a holiday - but not this time, fortunately. You guys probably have free access to most countries.
Jolie rencontre !
