Modern Lisbon

This picture serves to show that Lisbon has modern commercial districts, this one set in the upper Avenidas area. These areas are typivally further away from the river Tagus.

The jacaranda trees look great!
Louis: They did - at places there were whole streets lined with them. Right now is jacaranda time here in Pretoria - also a beautiful sight.
You were clearly there on a perfect day, Louis!
Louis: I had many such days in Portugal, Ginnie.

Good they are keeping their green spaces in the commercial district, Louis
Louis: That is what I like about that city - one is never too far from a green space or park.

With lampposts sporting golden bits on the top.
Louis: Must be left over from the Christmas decorations, gutteridge.

But the trees are wonderful in their colour!
Louis: They are jacaranda trees and they flower just the one month in a year.

It looks grand. I like the golden ship atop the lamp post
Louis: Thank you Chris. Maybe I should have kept the shot for Friday.
C'est superbe avec tous ces arbres fleuris.
Louis: Ils sont les arbres Jacaranda. Merci, Martine.
It looks like a city on a human scale
Louis: Lisbon itself is not so big. What impressed me, as the plane came in for landing, is that all around the city there are many sleeper cities and industrial areas.
It's the lamps and lamposts I particularly like Louis.
Louis: Nice old fashioned lighting (now electrified) is just part of old things that are well preserved.
By the palms and jacaranda present, I know the climate was nice.
Louis: Yes, it was, Mary. I picked the time that I was there for its more moderate climate. Portugal can get warm.

I am impressed with Ray knowing the name of that wonderful tree. This looks wonderful. I like the little figurines on top of the poles. A wonderful view.
Louis: He should know them http://www.qhatlas.com.au/jacaranda since they grow all over the part of Aus where he comes from smile Thank you, Astrid.
It seems like such a beautiful city!
Louis: I think it is, Elizabeth - so many contra points.
