Refectory - Mosteiro dos Jerónimos

The background in this picture is a photograph I have taken of the floor in the cloisters. Top left is the ceiling and dimensions of the refectory. The walls in the room is tiled (azulejos) right around, to a height of just over 2 metres. Various biblical scenes are depicted, like the one in bottom right where Joseph has been sold by his brothers.

In both pictures you can see rope-like carved stone borders against the wall. This is considered to be typical Manueline style decoration.

With this picture I end the short series about Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

For me, Portugal will always be the mythical Land of exquisite glazed tiles.
Louis: They have other stuff too, like wine, beer and husk brandy, Ray. The tiles are quite something to see.
I really love each of these shots - the details are just wonderful! It's been a great series, Louis! Thank you!
Louis: Glad you liked it, Elizabeth. It is a special place.

Good to see some details of the materials used in this wonderful building Louis.
Louis: And everything is so old - except the tiling in here that was done around 1850.

This is great Louis, all those wonderful surfaces to contemplate
Louis: Photographers are a bit pesky in here. That is one of the reasons why I have a high shot of the ceiling and not just a wide angle of the room.

I would love to see more pictures of the tiles, Louis
Louis: Oh, you will, Lisl. This is just Lisbon so far and I have travelled all over Portugal.
A beautiful place Louis
Louis: Beautiful and quite big, Bill.

My cousin's young son got a trip to Portugal this summer. You may have passed the same places.
Louis: We are bound to have passed the same places, Mary. He will probably tell you how much he enjoyed it - one can't miss.
