Alcobaça monastry - church facade

Over the weekend I was requested a close-up of the church facade. Unfortunately the size (on a viewing page) restrictions, will keep you from seeing how intricate the detail of this facade is.  Except when you have a big monitor screen.

The facade is described as baroque, with Gothic ambition and the interior as Cisterian austerity.

Goodness--so much ornamentation...
Louis: Indeed, very ornate, Larry.

It is brilliant, Louis.
Louis: Thank you, Ray.
What an amazing facade - it's just beautiful! I have a nice, big monitor... I'm seeing some very lovely detail!
Louis: I thought a big monitor will help, Elizabeth.
Definitely lots to see here, Louis! And I like how the people give it scale.
Louis: Thank you Ginnie - quite a big place.

Interesting about the contrasts of the outer and inner architecture. It must have been making some sort of statement
Louis: I would think there is some statement, Lisl, but wouldn't know what exactly.

I am so glad that the people give scale and show how immense this building is. Love the architecture.
Louis: Thank you Astrid - so much space, so little use.

No one could mistake the point at which one is to be funnelled into this church Louis.
Louis: Just got to lift your feet high when stepping over the sill, gutteridge.
I like the look of the stairs and door together.
Louis: It looks inviting, methinks, Mary.
This is a magnificent facade, the bottom area round the door and steps is similar to churches in this country but the rest certainly isn't.
Louis: Exterior and interior differs quite a lot, thanks Brian.
Fine shot of a superb facade!
barque with Gothic ambition - i like your description, Louis grin i think i can still enough details to leave my jaw open.
