Mort Subite - not a game

Opposite to the west of the Brandenburg Gate, there is a row of memorial crosses on the Tiergarten fence, for those who died trying to escape from East Berlin in this area, during the reign of the Wall. The Wall was a few yards to my right as I took this picture; and the Brandenburg Gate was behind that Wall in some empty space.

Good that the wall is now [mostly] gone, Louis.
Louis: Very good indeed, Ray.
Tristes souvenirs.
Louis: Ils sont très triste, en effet, Martine.
> The sunlight really adds to the drama of the crosses.
Louis: Like putting a spotlight on what happened. Thank you Jacquelyn.

All very sobering Louis. What a ghastly regime the East Germans had..
Louis: Yes and there too many ghastly regimes left, today.

This is an appalling reminder
Louis: The fact that some of them has fresh flowers or candles under them, indicates that there is a remembering soul out there ...

It still is mind blowing what all happened there and all the cruelties. And to know there are still some (too many) people adoring Nazi's
Louis: People are strange creatures.
If these "walls" could talk!
Louis: They are talking. As you can see, there are explanatory notes and articles added next to a cross. The fact that some of them has fresh flowers or candles under them (not visible in the picture), indicates that there is a remembering soul out there ...

I remember seeing this with Tiff, very poignant.
Louis: Very poignant, yes, gutteridge
A reminder of just how desperate some were to try to escape from the East
Louis: Desperate being the fruit of despair. I cannot really think how deep that despair must have been.
Good that these people aren't forgotten.
Louis: The fact that some of them has fresh flowers or candles under them, indicates that there is a remembering soul out there ... Apart from people stopping and reading.
A reminder forever more.
Louis: Always a pity that so many people scorn this type of reminder.
How very sad.
Louis: Indeed, Elizabeth
