photoblog image Rain dance

Rain dance

These are San people in the northern regions of South Africa. Earstwhile nomadic people with no special skills for the western style economy. A number of people try to earn something by selling the necklaces etc on the "stand" behind the children and posing for photographs. These people are poor, but try to fend for themselves and as is evident in the shot they are not destitute.

I think this shot to an extent depicts the plight of nomadic peoples world wide, who have to reconcile their life styles with a non-nomadic and fenced in modern society.

Good documentary shot, how does this look in monochrome?

Louis: Monochrome not so nice - what I think. Little experiment showed that if I could change the other objects to B+W, while keeping all humans to their natural colour, it would be a nice picture. Will soon work on it. Thanks for the idea and comment.

Such shots make me realize the power of Shutterchance in bringing ppl from all over here to share pictures that another could not have possibly dreamt of taking or viewing.

Love it. Well done.
Louis: I agree and thanks for the comment.

this is great image for me, it tells a story and asks the question who the real poor are, it is clear here that these people have soul yet have very little posessions. then you have people who think a real problem is when they find a scratch on the paintwork of their BMW...
excellent image!
Louis: Thanks rabby, I appreciate your comment
hi louis

he he he...this shot reminds me of the latest springbok rugby add..."swing it bru"
Louis: Shucks you have been digging far in the past. It can remind one of the ad, indeed. I some stage I thought I would like to revisit this picture for a different processing, but I seem much too busy. I will start thinking about it again.
Excellent shot smile
Louis: Wow, you went far back smile Thanks for the comment Rafael.
