Foot of the Sani Pass
Somewhere within the first few kilometres of the Sani Pass. The dirt road you see here is the actual road of the pass. Very nice here at the bottom and as you get closer to the summit, it zig-zags with steep inclines and is boulder strewn. The right of way belongs to those ascending, which means the person coming down has to look for somewhere on the verge to get out of the way. The Sani Pass is the most adventurous way of going to Lesotho and is meant for 4x4 travel only. People also do it with dirt bikes and quads. The SA border post is about halfway up the pass and the Lesotho border post at the summit. Louis, I love the various tones and winding road to..whereever we want to go.
Louis: We are going up-up-and-away! Thanks Ken
This has quite a different feel from the color version, Louis, but both make me want to get out of the car and start climbing on foot!
Louis: You would need to be very fit then. About 24kms and very steep inclines at times. I will follow you by car
Very nice black and white shot. Perfect for this picture.
Louis: Thank you Kay
nice mood here!
Louis: Thank you alex
Makes me wantto be there Louis: did you climb to the top?
Louis: I did yes, with my car
If I were resident in the area, i should like to give this pass a go.
Louis: Something for the next time you come by.
Mood is totally different to the colour version, looks like a fun road on a dirt bike...yes l have tried many dangerous sports in my time
Louis: It is a fun road yes, also dangerous. Over the years there have been a number of fatals. Last year someone on a quad bike went over the side. This type of blind and sharp turns inthe road demand caution.
Looks great in B&W, Louis...nice choice.
Louis: Thank you Ray
This is a beautiful black and white!
Louis: Thank you Clare
Great choice with B&W Louis. I love the atmosphere!
Louis: Thanks richard, have you ever been this way on your travels?
The b&w makes the sky look more dramatic. being a real b&w fan you may be surprised to know that I think I prefer the colour version on this time. I'm sure it's the colour of that long grass.
Louis: On the particular day the sky made for dramatic shots as the rest of the series will show. You will also see more of the coloured tall grass as we go along.
Looks like a set from an old Western...where's John Wayne?
Louis: Oh, he has just gone past and is out of sight now. Heading the crooks off at the pass
lovely shot Louis, love the comp and tones here
Louis: Thank you tim
I'm not crazy about mountain driving.but this shot is a beauty.
Louis: It gets better as we go higher. I am a careful driver, so you would be safe as on a level road if you came along. Thanks Mary.
Beautiful image. Looks like an awesome place to explore.
Louis: It is awesome indeed. A fun trip and a lot to experience. Thank you DigitalDiva
I like the curved road in the left corner,it brings balance against the big rock on the right. I like the soft gray tones as well
Louis: Thanks Magnus. I did try a more vivid b&w conversion but thought it didn't work so well.
This could be the site for a 'Western' movie ... lots of pleasure going to this place. richard
Louis: A lot of pleasure we had, for sure. This route was for very long only covered by horse and mule freight 'trains'
Very different from the colour version. I like them both
Louis: Thank you Albert. Since I was not sure which one, I decided to put them both up.
What an amazing place! Nicely captured.
Louis: Thank you martie, it is such a place
I'd like to see the color version too
Louis: I did put up a link to the colour version on this picture
Great B&W with good contrast ! Bravo Maestro !
Louis: Oh, thank you Zebigleb
