Judea desert

This picture was taken on my way to the monastry on Mount of Temptation. The nearer houses form the outskirts of Jericho, which, with the other villages are also known as al-Sultan.

The camera is pointing roughly in an eastern direction. This is West Bank area and the Jordan river is on the other side of the dark patch in the distance, where you can vaguely see erosion gullies. The gullies and the land beyond, is part of the Kingdom of Jordan or Jordania.

The lighter colour of the earth, around here, is due to a lot of limestone.

Starkly beautiful, Louis.

This is an amazing image Louis with everything being so white, or at least light

A lot to see here, Louis, and not as I would have imagined the outskirts of Jericho!

I remember the Judea desert travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho - absolute solitude. A great image!
Is the dark area a small forest? If so, I would live near there.
An alien landscape Louis. It looks very hot!
Everywhere is certainly very brightly coloured, as it would be with Limestone of course. I like the way the community is split up ito little enclaves rather than all crowded in together.
a fine shot, Louis. i am for the first time touring this part of the world through your images.
An amazing mixture of desert and development!

This is such an interesting shot. I agree with Ray, stark beauty. I'll be posting photos of the Sahara which has remarkably different colors. I never realized the significant variations in deserts!
Isn't that amazing looking!!! Nice Louis!
