Tomar - Convento de Cristo - gardens

I walked the battlements of the monastry/convent, which at some stage took me around some gardens. These are some of the views that I recorded.

Interesting fact: The Knights Templar (later the Knights of the Order of Christ) in Tomar, allowed some women into the knighthood.

All good, Louis, but the poppies make the montage exceptional.
Louis: When in the North, the poppies always draw my attention. Maybe because we don't have wild poppies in SA.

a wonderful montage of this lovely place!
Louis: Dankjewel, Philine
I see we're still in Portugal, Louis, which I'm so keen to see because of what you've shown us. What most grabs my attention here is your last statement, that some women were allowed into the knighthood. WOW.
Louis: Yes and I will remain in Portugal for some time smile The female knights may only have been limited to Portugal and I think there couldn't have been too many of them. The knight's sword alone weighed close to 20kgs and then you had to wield it faster than your opponent.

I didn't know that, Louis
Louis: I was amazed when I first read that.

What a lovely place Louis, a real delight

I am surprised at what you say regarding the Templars. We have evidence, some of which I have visited, of their buildings and sites in the UK
Louis: Thank you Chris. What applied to the Portuguese chapter of the Templars, may not have applied anywhere else.
Quelles belles vues, c'est magnifique.
Louis: Merci Martine

A fantastic looking place Louis, it makes me want to rush back to Portugal.
Louis: I saw that you also moved into Portugal with your postings. I can just say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

'Women into the knighthood'...
What a great place to visit and you made a wonderful collage. Portugal is still on our list to visit. Did you rent a car??
Louis: Thank you Astrid. I rented a car through https://www.arguscarhire.com/en#/searchcars where you can get amazing deals through reliable companies.
The poppy shot grabs the eye. Love the thick summer shade.
Louis: On that very hot day, the shade was quite welcome at times.
This looks a picturesque and beautiful place to visit.
Louis: Indeed, that was the case, Brian.
Looks like you had this lovely place to yourself Louis
Louis: There were others, but not enough to make it impossible to get un-peopled shots.
A lovely spot.
Louis: The shady parts were welcome on a hot day.
What a interesting clutch of shots, it does look a nice place to visit
Louis: I found it quite rewarding; part of it being to wander around in a Knights Templar stronghold.
A wonderful montage - I love each of these!
Louis: Thanks a lot, Elizabeth
a nice collection from a sun filled walk in the gardens, Louis. good that there is plenty of shade
Louis: Thank you, Ayush. Yes, the shade was welcome.
Looks like a great place to visit...
