Ghost riders

THIS IS NOT A SEPIA SHOT. These are riders practising for an upcoming endurance ride in the ring at the stables. After some specific exercises, they will depart on a 20km practise run to complete the mornings exercise.

This time of the year the arena is dusty, which provides the appearance of a sepia picture. I have taken this shot as it is with the big lens from a safe distance to stay out of the dust.

I really love the realness of this if that makes sense. I understand the distance as that's what happens to me when I'm in Barbados so from me .. well done bruv I love it.
Louis: Thank you Johnny, one has to look after the expensive glass works smile
Like the image. This atmosphere reminds me of that old movie "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"
Louis: Now that you mention it, the semblance is there. Thanks for your comment ChaCha
Well composed! It matches my mental image of the Pony Express riders.
Louis: Just as they come riding into a station smile Thanks for the comment Martin.
I love the light in this shot, Louis.
Louis: Thanks for the comment Mary
Very, very good shot. The arena causes that the atmosphere of the race can be felt. I like much. It is a picture photo! smile
Louis: I am also happy with the result here. Thanks for the comment Josè-Angel.

Nice effect, Louis. I like the lighting and the dust. It creates a dramatic picture.
Louis: Thank you Kay - believe me that they are sweating dust stripes from this work-out smile
Great atmospheric shot! I love the light on the fence and the glints on the helmets.
Louis: Thanks for the comment Karen - those glints held my attention as well. The guy at the back is sans helmet and the sun is glinting from his bald pate smile

Wow,they will depart on a 20km practise run?every day they do it?it's long journey.
Like in the cowboys movie, nicely done.
Louis: Not everyday, but once a week and on alternate weeks it is 30km. During the week the horse is lunged for stamina and fitness. Thanks for the comment Dudee.

Louis: This picture ended up in your style because of the natural toning from the dust. Thanks for the comment Petra.

Louis: Ja lieverd - ze trekken op voor de thee tongue Moet je reken dat met al de stof een pilsje zacht naar binnen zal glippen. Nieuwe lens, niet - stofdoekje op zak. Groetjes daar.

Hi Louis - great shot, it's so full of atmosphere, and like the "this is not a sepia shot" comment, and there's no chance I would have thought it was one anyway, it's too good for such treatment.
I personally do not like that obviously-false sepia effect some people do to photos - why do they do it?
Louis: Thanks for this comment urban8. I guess you know that sepia is the colour that the old plates took on after lengthy exposure and that people try to copy the 'romantic' feel of the yesteryear pic. But what you said is true - there are attempts out there to sepia a picture that is like orange or whatever and not sepia and many times the sepia application is not on - like a 2007 Porsche in sepia colour.

At first I thought it was fog, Louis, until I read your text and comments. It's awesome! It may be my favorite of all your pics thus far (though how can one choose, so I guess I'm saying I like dust/fog!).

Straight to my Likeys!!
Louis: Ma'am, 2 days in a row. My heart. Apart from the banter, it remains an honour. Thank you Ginnie.
I like everything about this - the light, the composition, the colour. It has such a peaceful atmospher. Great shot
