Looks like something from the American Southwest except for the lush greenery!
Louis: Yes Martin, most south africans are of the opinion that if they ever had to move, that is the area where they will root the best in the US. We have some areas that are drier and even more remniscent of your southwest.
This is a stunning photo, Louis. The colour is so intense!
Louis: Thank you Mary, I agree.
Agreed--the colors are sumptuous.
Louis: Thanks Larry, the main trick was to maintain strong visibility of the foreground.
Stunning photo the shadow and colours are super
Louis: Thanks vintage, it is a great area for our annual short break.
A wel composed pic, an early morning athmosphere when the colours are so wonderful! A majestic mountain which looks like a big olifant or a lion lying in the sun, I like the single trees which neglect the timber-line and climb up!
Louis: Truely a beautiful time to be out and about Philine. In my mind it is more like a lion or a sphinx.
Geweldig, I love the way the mountain is a little faded compaired to the forground, the light is superb, amazing tones, love it, where is this??
Louis: This is in our Mphumalanga province and part of the Steenkamps mountain range. Glad you like it Astrid.
This is nice!
I like your choice of saturation here Louis, and the composition is pleasing.
Louis: Thanks for the comment ray.
Looks familiar! Do I sense a bit of work on saturation, or is this its natural tones? I like the blueish haze at the bottom of the mountain...
Louis: Thank you Dirk. No saturation - I used a high dynamic range technique that increases the tonal range beyound the camera's standard range. When you come visit again I can explain.
The complimentary colours of red and green work well in this photograph, louis.
Louis: Thanks chad, especially the red
Superb photo Louis, what a gorgeous view.
Louis: Thank you Aussie, quite a place to spend a short break.
I love this shot Louis it's just stunning
Louis: Thank you Tracy, in God's creation there is no monks and cardinals running around to stop you from taking pictures
awesome mountain, did you ever climb it...
Louis: Thanks Chantal, yes I did. Evidence is on http://louis.shutterchance.com/photoblog/31349.htm where you can see the same mountain as a ridge stretching away behind the two people on the rock.
Superb composition Louis. I like the blue haze! Did you shoot this in the Magaliesberg?
Louis: Thanks Richard, no this is the Steenkampsberg (part of a very long range) in Mphumalanga province. Just as you come down the highveld from Machadodorp on your way to Lydenburg.
beautiful!
Louis: Why thank you Giepstra
woah now that must be worth climbing for the view Louis, super landscape image
Louis: It is a great climb tim. I have blogged a picture of the view from the top. Picture is on http://louis.shutterchance.com/photoblog/31349.htm where you can see the same mountain as a ridge stretching away behind the two people on the rock.
Looks to be a tricky one to climb from this side Louis. That cliff looks pretty impossible ... but maybe there is a way through and up in the broken gulley (in shadow on the right hand side). I would have been happy to take on the challenge ten years ago but not so keen now.
Striking shot. richard
Louis: Thanks Richard. Your guess is right on the jackpot. Evidence is on http://louis.shutterchance.com/photoblog/31349.htm where you can see the same mountain as a ridge stretching away behind the two people on the rock. The climb is through the gully, visible behind the red trainer shoe.
Up the side is not for me and others should rather use mountaineering equipment.
What a climb... have you ever reached the top ? :o)
Louis: Thanks john, check the evidence on http://louis.shutterchance.com/photoblog/31349.htm where you can see the same mountain as a ridge stretching away behind the two people on the rock.
Amazing that trees can live on the edge like that.
I like the composition in this one Louis
Louis: Thanks Magnus, you can compare this picture to see how many trees there were last year http://louis.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Cloudy_Day_3/ As I have indicated many trees were dead already.
Lovely - I really like the blue tones overlaying the greens and browns of the mountain.
Louis: Thanks Jewlya, the blue tones has something to do with the way that the sun is setting early behind a mountain.
Nice composition! I like the direction of the sun light on the hill...mm..look similar..
Louis: Thanks Peter. From where I took the picture I was standing in the shadow of another part of the mountain to the right.
Very strong beautiful colours here Louis - love the shape of the mountain
Louis: Thank you Aksel, not as high as the Norwegian mountains
Nie again ! Impressive rock !
Louis: Thanks again Imaginerf
