Rock martins

This couple stayed around the house that I stayed in at Tankwa. Here they are on a slate ledge in the wall of the outbuilding.

What a fine image this is!
Louis: Thank you, Ray. They are an obliging couple.
Quelle magnifique photo ! Ils n'ont pas l'air sauvage.
Louis: Ils sont des oiseaux sauvages. L'activité humaine dans ce domaine sont rares. Ils ne sont pas à se méfier, encore.
well seen, Louis. i like how they are sitting down. is that slate a natural piece? i ask because it looks unbelievably flat.
Louis: The slate is 100% natural stone. I have seen a number of slate banks in this area, where I stayed. Slate is made up of parallel foliated plates. This gives it the ability to break smoothly and evenly along its cleavage. The slate that the two birds are resting on, will be as it was picked up by the builder. Slate comes mostly in either the grey or reddish brown colour. Ideal for use as tiles, for cladding and garden paths. More info https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slate
A super shot Louis.
Louis: Thank you, Frank
Terrific shot, Louis!! And aren't they lovely!
Louis: Thanks, Elizabeth. They always succeed in carrying an air of timidity.

A fine shot Louis, they are obviously in their element up there..
Louis: They were always around the little house and outbuilding, where I stayed in the Tanqua. The slept on the veranda, while I was having dinner (I had to wait until after dark because of the heat and baboons). In the early morning when I was having breakfast, they would still cuddle and by the time I am finished; they will be off on their first sortie.

When I say ‘turn’, we both turn at the same time.
Louis: They will make an old sergeant's heart pump chocolates, that way.
Birds of a feather staying together. How nice, Louis.
Louis: For sure, Ginnie. It was nice to have them around during my stay.
