A bird on the wire

This African Green Pigeon is one of a bunch that sunned themselves on the telephone cables accross the road from my house during the past winter.

When I saw the azzure blue colour of the sky in this picture, I checked and found that the other pigeon shots taken in a different direction was less blue. It was only when I took shots due south that blue became so intense. No further explanation, but it must have something to do with the time of day and the angle away from the sun.

In Afrikaans this pigeon is a Papegaaiduif, which translates to Parrot Pigeon. It even walks on the wire in the way that you would expect from a parrot - a half crawl kind of way.

Today I will leave early for the last endurance meet for the year. I will catch up with comments and views later in the weekend.

That sky is simply amazing - so vivid. Lovely bird, too.

Does look like a confused pigeon....eeerrr, parrot....whatever.
Might be the brilliance of the sky getting to it.
Nice pic, Louis?
Umh...what's an Endurance meet....is that a boring business conference...where the challenge is to not die of boredom?
Louis: It is true that there are such meetings smile This one is long distance for horses. THe flying thing is checking me out and may be wondering whether to take off smile Thanks for the comment ray.

Is to me a precious photo, where the blue one frames everything. I repeat what it said the other day to you, note that masters to the birds. Indeed, I have in the tail an image of a parrot... I hope that you like! Have a great WE, Louis!
Louis: Thanks - it was a great weekend. Thanks for the comment Josè-Angel.
Absolutely love the colouring and soft textures. The backing rich sky greatly enhances the shot. Well Done!! :o)

I'm sure you'll never forget that bit of trivia about the blue sky, Louis, knowing you. smile

Besides that, I love everything about this photo: its simplicity, the wire angle, the perch (yes, with the feet), the colors, the inquisitive look. You really are the master of these shots.;

I'll be rooting for you and your horse/daughter over the weekend.
Louis: Thanks for the root. They have completed their 69 kms successfully and Emily is now officially out of the novice class. Activities will now be limited to excercising, injection for african horse sickness (which is followed by a 6 weeks rest) then start the exercise program for the first meet which should be right at the end of Jan 08.
Thanks for the comment Ginnie.
Very nice picture Louis. Love the framing and composition. Well done!!
Louis: Thank you Frank

You do a great job with these bird shots. The color of the sky is amazing.
Louis: Thanks for the comment Jewlya
Fantastic picture with this south african blue shy I am missing so much
Louis: Thanks for the comment standley. I have visited your blog site. What I have found most interesting is that many of your SA pictures date from late 1970's and are comparible to dia-positives I have from same period. Beautiful are the cars and clothing from that era.

Louis, I am jealous. SA has some beautiful birds. I am thankful that you are showing them to us. Lovely capture.
Louis: That about the birds is true. Many types and most are beautiful. Thank you Kay.
What an interesting bird! It does have the look of both a parrot and a pigeon. I love that sky! If you ever come up with an explanation as to why it looks that way, please let us know. smile
Louis: I will. Thanks for the comment again Karen
hard to believe its not photo shopped Louis, stunningsmile
Louis: Thanks tim. In the other one you would have seen there is quite a difference between the actual and reflected sky. I see it, but can't explain it smile Not a scientist.
