Up cxlose this is almost frightening Louis, who would be a small rodent?
Louis: Small rodent if I was a big rodent like a kangaroo I would still be watching out. Sitting on the ground, its head will probably reach to above belt level of mr Average. Not the kind of perspective you can see in this type of picture.
As with eagles in general, that beak could do some serious harm.I might get the shivers being so close. Fabulous capture!
Louis: Mary, I have this thing that is a 100-400 zoom lens. Fully extended to 400 mm I am not that close. I am not my mother's most beautiful boy (looks can't be hurt then), but I don't like bleeding - so I play it safe with this character Thank for the comment.
Louis, thanks so much for the advice you gave Tom about cameras. I think he'll get a new camera in March, which is when our older brother will come to the US to visit me.
Make sure to cheer for Brazil in the World Cup, once South Africa is out
I wish you & your family a great 2010!
Louis: They do have that personality. Helping Tomas is just a pleasure. I don't mind cheering for Brazil, but the host nation inability is somewhat of a sore point over here. I do have ties with Holland though ...
Thanks for the good wishes and all the best to you and yours.
Awesome shot. Puts my eagle shot to shame. He definitely looks to be checking you out. My uncle said one reason the eagle I took a shot of let me get so close is that he was playing Chicken, if you will, with me - trying to show who is in charge and sizing me up.
Louis: This particular one is used to humans, having been nursed to good health after an accident. Interesting theory by your uncle
To get this in the wild must be an amazing feeling!
Louis: Nature is not staged for the likes of us, but when you are around it a lot; you can sometimes manage special peeks behind the curtain. A privileged moment.
Wow! Amazing shot!
We tried to save a black eagle chick born in our incubators, some years ago, and gave it to a nice woman who specialized in saving birds of prey and it grew well! Every second WE it was put back in the nest by a "cliffhanger" friend and we would swap the 2 chicks until they were 3 month old!
The SA TV monitored the whole thing! A great experience!
Unfortunately one of the journalists was mauled by a starving tiger shortly after at the Luanda zoo, Angola...
You might remember!!
Louis: I do remember something about a Rick Lomba - a member of the Carte Blanche team. That was long ago, maybe 1995; I am not sure.
Thanks for the comment and interesting experiences that you are sharing Carine
What a gorgeous, metallic, beak he has, Louis.
