Blues with a sax

The result of a 'paint with light' exercise. Since I am learning, we kept the photo subjects simple.

In this case, Louis, less is definitely more. This is fabulous, especially against the black page. A Likey for me.

I've never tried this technique - is it difficult? It seems to have worked pretty well.
Louis: I believe it is not difficult - not easy like point and shoot, but some knowledge of your camera will help. This article shows about painting with light: http://www.diyphotography.net/painting_with_light . Just under the 2nd pic there is a heading "Location shot" which is most of what we have done. The graffiti style drawings are not what I am into. About halfway through the webpage there is a heading "Light Painting examples" that shows more of the type of thing we have done. We painted with light to enhance an object in its normal environment, but in darkness.
You take more than one picture (with tripod as the pics must fit on each other - no movement of camera or tripod) - how many would depend on the size of the object. One picture in ambient light to serve as background. Load all into PS as layers for the background, create a black mask for each layer. Paint the lighted object in the layer mask with a white brush. Overpainted? Recover with black brush.
All shooting in manual. The knowledge of the camera comes in where you must know what to do with settings if you have undesired results.

That sounds very time consuming - not sure I would have the patience! But I will take a look at the link. Thanks Louis.
Louis: Aye, time can be used up when going for more complicated pictures. Thing to do on a not so busy weekend.

This is really beautiful light Ginnie, well done!
Louis: Now, girl - there are some differences between Ginnie and me. The most important one is that she blogs better pictures.
Thank you scarlet, if the comment was meant for me wink
