This is a juvenile pale chanting goshawk. An adult bird here. I don't think it will be able to hunt an adult hyrax down, but there are lots of young ones around among the rocks.

Be vigilant this weekend and don't let the good opportunities pass you by.

He's vigilant alright Louis - and hungry!
Louis: He was eyeing some close by rock rabbits, but can only take a young one - which were not visible, if they were there. Interesting how the hyrax are not really worried about the hawk, but probably have hidden their young in some crevices.
Fabulous shot of this beauty. They love pigeons!
Louis: Thanks Mary. Oh yes they do

A proud bird and the look from his eyes.. This is a great portrait, what a catch smile
Louis: Thank you Astrid. The catch made possible by the long lens.
A fine beast. It is our monthly book sale tomorrow and the forecast is rain....perhaps Chris is planning a surprise visit
Louis: Well if Chris is planning on being a spoilsport, then he will have to buy at least half of the books, to say how sorry he is. Success with the sale.
nic use of your lens Louis, what details!
Louis: Thank you Ayush - old Mr Reliable - he is.

An amazing image, Louis! I am still on a quest to get my perfect hawk shot.
Louis: Thanks Jennie, and good luck with that quest.
Ohhh my... what an amazing hawk and a great photo.
Louis: Thanks a lot Jacquelyn Ann
Oh - brilliant clarity!!!
Louis: Thanks Elizabeth. It flew off the very next moment.
Wonderful detail, Louis. You could almost reach out and touch him, although, I think that may be a fool hardy thing to do.
Louis: Thanks Beverly, you are right. The people handling them and their cousins, normally wear leather gloves.
This is a wonderful portrait of the goshawk Louis... he is paying close attention for anything that that he can snack on....petersmile

Looking very competent...
Louis: Like all raptors, a born killing machine
